I folded my arms across my chest. “Ever wish we could just settle down?”
He fully rolled onto his side to face me. “You can whenever you want, Jeron. But you know I can’t. There’s not a place on this planet that would take in a spawn like me.”
“You’re not a spawn, Sylus.” I rolled onto my side so I could look into his alien eyes. Four-pointed stars glowed dimly in the dark.
“Debatable.” He replied.
I ran my fingers through his thick sideburns. “A Sanctuary means I might finally get to shave.” I laughed.
“You know me, Jer, haven’t shaved in fifty something years.”
“Yeah ‘cause you’re a lucky bastard who can control his looks with a thought.”
“Now now, you know better. I can make very minor changes, but what you see is what you get with me.”
I shoved him lightly. He wrapped his arms around me and pulled me close.
“It might even be nice to get back on the road again with a destination in mind.” I spoke into his chest. I never got tired of the smell of lavender and rainfall.
“Plus our anniversary is coming up.”
“Which one?” I laughed.
“Does it matter?” He smiled.
“I’m just curious since we have a few.”
“Well, since we incorporated. Fifty-five years in a month.”
“God we’re old.”
“You wouldn’t know it by looking at us.”
“Thank god for small miracles.” I chuckled.
“Nah. You can thank the Void for that one.” He tapped the tip of my nose with his finger.
